This Howlite 6 Sided Pendulum is crafted from natural Howlite and polished into a classic six-sided faceted point.

Each pendulum is suspended from a silver plated chain and finished with a round Clear Quartz holding bead, providing a comfortable point from which to hold the pendulum.

Howlite is a distinctive calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral, typically recognised by its white to creamy-white colouring crossed by irregular grey, charcoal or black veining. These natural markings can create an attractive web-like or marble-style appearance, with every piece displaying its own individual pattern.

First identified in Canada during the 19th century, Howlite is an interesting mineral in its own right. Because its naturally porous structure readily accepts dyes, it has also become well known as a material that is sometimes coloured blue and marketed as an imitation or substitute for Turquoise.

This pendulum is sold as Howlite, celebrating the mineral's natural appearance rather than presenting it as another stone.

Natural variations in veining, colour and pattern ensure every pendulum is individually distinctive.

Suitable for mineral and crystal collectors, traditional dowsing practices, decorative collections or as a distinctive gift.

Howlite is commonly found as white nodules with characteristic grey or dark veining. Although massive material is familiar within the lapidary trade, well-developed Howlite crystals are considerably less common.

The mineral was first identified in Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1868 and was named after Canadian chemist and mineralogist Henry How, who investigated the material.

Its distinctive natural appearance and ability to take a high polish have made Howlite popular for carvings, beads, cabochons and other ornamental objects.

Is Howlite the Same as Turquoise?

No. Howlite and Turquoise are completely different minerals.

Natural Howlite is normally white or cream with grey to dark veining. Because Howlite is relatively porous, it can readily absorb colour and is frequently dyed blue or blue-green to imitate the appearance of Turquoise.

Dyed Howlite may therefore be encountered under names such as Turquenite, and it has sometimes been incorrectly marketed as Turquoise or “White Turquoise”.

Mineralogically, however, Howlite and Turquoise have different chemical compositions and should not be treated as interchangeable mineral names.

This product is sold transparently as Howlite.

Natural inclusions, veining and small surface variations are characteristic of natural mineral material and are not necessarily imperfections.
