Explore the Tibetan Tektite collection at GeoFossils, featuring dark natural glass specimens with confirmed provenance from China.

Tektites form when the intense heat of a meteorite impact melts terrestrial rock and sediment. This molten material is ejected and cools into natural glass, preserving evidence of a powerful geological event.

Material traded as Tibetan Tektite is generally associated with the Indochinite group of the Australasian tektite strewn field, which formed approximately 788,000 years ago. This wider distribution includes southern China and parts of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

These dark brown to black specimens display varied shapes and surface textures, including pits, grooves and smoother areas. Their individual characteristics make them interesting additions to tektite, impact glass and geological collections.

Our specimens originate from China. “Tibetan Tektite” is the trade name used for this material and does not indicate a confirmed recovery location within Tibet.
