This is a location-based collection. Unlike the Long Wave (LW), Medium Wave (MW) and Short Wave (SW) collections, which organise specimens by the wavelength used during examination, UK Fluorescent Minerals are grouped according to their British origin.

A specimen may therefore appear in this collection alongside one or more wavelength or behaviour collections. For example, a British mineral may fluoresce under LW ultraviolet light, exhibit phosphorescence, or display more than one fluorescent colour.

British mineral localities have produced a wide range of mineral species and associations, including specimens from historic mines, quarries and geological formations. Fluorescent responses can vary considerably according to mineral composition, locality and the presence of trace elements or structural defects.

Where testing has been completed, each product listing identifies the ultraviolet wavelength used and the fluorescent colour observed. The locality is also recorded as accurately as available, including the mine, quarry, county or wider region where known.
