The Magic of Jacinto De Compostela Quartz

An ancient and potent quartz, with its sublime energies, was formed in the Triassic period and revered in ancient Rome as an amulet of good luck. Even more remarkable is the story behind this gem’s name. Jacinto is a Portuguese and Spanish word for Hyacinth. In Greek mythology, Hyacinth was a beautiful mortal man, lover of the god Apollo. Jealous of Hyacinth’s beauty, the wind god Zephyrus killed Hyacinth. When Hyacinth died, Apollo formed a flower, the Hyacinth, from the spilt blood so that his lover’s spirit may live on forever—this quartz was named for its blood-red colour, reminiscent of this stunning, wisdom-filled flower.

Beyond its fascinating history, Jacinto De Compostela Quartz carries potent healing energy, and this is your gem if you could use an influx of peace, alignment, and energetic cleansing. Meditate with these pieces, work with them in crystal grids, or place them on your altar to begin harnessing their magic!

Jacinto de Compostela Quartz within Spanish mineralogical literature, the name is traditionally used exclusively for the red "floater" variety of authigenic quartzes from continental gypsum-bearing marls of the Triassic Keuper formation. (They may also be found occasionally in younger Tertiary or Quaternary sediments, but in these cases the crystals were eroded out of the Keuper F.)

Two types are found:

1. Isolated bi-terminated crystals.

2. hedgehog-like spheroidal aggregates. Both characteristically occur as "floaters" embedded in marl, or as inclusions in gypsum masses or, less commonly, aragonite crystals.
