Pinolith is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of dolomite (CaMg(CO₃)₂), magnesite (MgCO₃), and graphite (C). The distinctive “pine nut” pattern is created when magnesite crystals are embedded in a dark grey dolomite matrix, with graphite adding contrast. Its Mohs hardness is around 4–4.5, requiring protective settings for jewellery use.
