Mosasaurs were a family of enormous marine reptiles which unequivocally dominated the seas during the Cretaceous period's last 20-25 million years, with the extinction of ichthyosaurs and decline of plesiosaurs, mosasaurs diversified to become the most prolific apex predators in nearly every habitat of the oceanic world.

These reptiles' impressive size and presumed ferocity earned them a pivotal role in Jurassic World. The mosasaur in the movie was ridiculously more enormous than the largest mosasaur ever discovered, which still comes in at a staggering 56 feet long! Though not actual dinosaurs, mosasaurs are so exciting that they often come up in conversation with T-Rex and Spinosaurus.
