Epidote is a sorosilicate mineral with the chemical formula Ca₂(Fe³⁺,Al)₃(SiO₄)₃(OH). It is not on the periodic table as a pure element, but its composition includes calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), aluminium (Al), silicon (Si), and hydroxide (OH). It grows in a monoclinic crystal system, commonly forming elongated prismatic crystals with a vitreous to resinous lustre. Epidote’s signature pistachio-green to brown-green shades arise from its iron content, and its hardness is 6–7 on the Mohs scale.

This specimen comes from the Les Collades ravine (Escales reservoir), Casterner de les Olles, Tremp, Pallars Jussà, Lleida, Catalonia, Spain — a locality known for producing well-formed epidote crystals prized by collectors.
