Explore Philippinite Tektites, also known as Rizalites, from Novaliches, Luzon, Philippines, historically part of Rizal Province.
These dark natural glass specimens feature pitted surfaces and sculpted grooves. Several display deep intersecting channels that create a distinctive football-like pattern, while others have flatter or more irregular forms.
Formed approximately 790,000 years ago, Philippinites belong to the Australasian tektite strewn field. They consist of terrestrial rock and sediment melted and ejected during a meteorite impact, then cooled into glass.

Origin and Formation
Tektites are Earth material transformed by a meteorite impact, rather than fragments of the meteorite itself. They differ from obsidian, which forms through volcanic processes.
The Australasian strewn field is the broad area across which material from this impact event was distributed. Philippine specimens are known as Philippinites, with Rizalite an alternative name derived from Rizal Province.
Provenance
Our supplier has confirmed the locality as Novaliches, Luzon, Philippines. GeoFossils retains the supporting provenance records.
Care Instructions
Handle carefully: natural glass can chip or fracture if dropped. Remove dust with a soft brush and store separately from harder minerals. Avoid abrasive cleaners, ultrasonic cleaning and sudden temperature changes.
Please Note
The group photograph shows the selection available; you are purchasing one specimen.
Natural pits, grooves and irregular outlines vary between pieces. Not every specimen is spherical or displays a football-like pattern. Any significant damage or repairs will be described separately.
Refer to the weight and any supplied dimensions when selecting your piece. Photographs may enlarge its appearance, and colour may vary slightly with lighting and screen settings.
Traditional Crystal Uses
In contemporary crystal practice, tektites are sometimes used for meditation and as symbols of change or connection. These are metaphysical beliefs, not scientifically established properties. No medical or therapeutic benefit is claimed.
