These natural Ruby crystals from Ketito, Manyara Region, Tanzania, display red fluorescence under Long Wave (LW) UV at 365nm and orange fluorescence under Medium Wave (MW) UV at 310nm.
Every Ruby offered in this listing has been tested by GeoFossils and selected for both fluorescent responses. Fluorescence intensity and distribution vary between individual crystals. A UV light of the appropriate wavelength is needed to observe each response.
In ordinary light, these crystals have pink to reddish-purple colouring, irregular forms and textured surfaces. Ruby is the red variety of corundum, an aluminium oxide mineral coloured by trace amounts of chromium.
Each piece weighs approximately 9.8ct (1.96g) and is supplied in a specimen box with an identification label.
Selected crystals with distinctive structures or terminations are offered as individually priced variants and are excluded from the standard fixed price.
The crystals are natural and unpolished, with no treatments applied. They have only been cleaned with washing-up liquid to remove surface dirt.
Price is for one Ruby crystal, supplied in a labelled specimen box.
Mineral Composition
