This Petrified Wood 6 Sided Pendulum is crafted from natural Petrified Wood and polished into a classic six-sided faceted point.

Each pendulum is suspended from a silver plated chain and finished with a round Clear Quartz holding bead, providing a comfortable point from which to hold the pendulum.

Petrified Wood is a fascinating geological material formed when ancient plant material becomes preserved through permineralisation and mineral replacement. Over geological time, mineral-rich water moves through buried wood, depositing minerals within its structure and, under suitable conditions, progressively replacing the original organic material.

Silica minerals, particularly forms of Quartz and Chalcedony, are commonly responsible for the preservation of Petrified Wood. This process can retain remarkable details from the original plant, including grain, growth patterns and structural features.

Its combination of natural history, geology and individual patterning makes Petrified Wood particularly appealing to fossil, mineral and crystal collectors.

Natural variations in colour, pattern, mineralisation and preserved wood structure ensure every pendulum is individually distinctive.

Suitable for fossil and mineral collectors, crystal collections, traditional dowsing practices, decorative collections or as an unusual natural history gift.

Geological & Material Information

Material: Petrified Wood
Material Type: Fossilised / mineralised plant material
Formation Process: Permineralisation and mineral replacement
Common Mineralisation: Silica, including Quartz and Chalcedony
Original Material: Ancient wood or woody plant material
Pendulum Shape: 6 sided faceted point
Chain: Silver plated
Holding Bead: Round Clear Quartz

Petrified Wood forms when buried plant material is protected from rapid decomposition and exposed to mineral-rich groundwater. Dissolved minerals can enter microscopic spaces within the wood and gradually mineralise its structure.

Silica is particularly important in many examples of Petrified Wood. Over time, the original organic material may be partially or extensively replaced while details of the wood's original structure remain preserved in stone.

Different minerals and trace elements can contribute to the wide range of brown, cream, grey, red, yellow and darker tones seen within Petrified Wood.

Is Petrified Wood Actually Wood?

Petrified Wood originated as genuine plant material, but the finished fossil has undergone extensive mineralisation.

Rather than being ordinary modern wood that has simply hardened, its original biological structure has been preserved through geological processes over long periods of time.

This makes Petrified Wood an unusual bridge between palaeontology and mineralogy: it records ancient biological material while much of the specimen itself is now composed of minerals.

Please Note

Petrified Wood is a natural fossil material, so colour, pattern, mineralisation, inclusions and visible preserved structures will vary between individual pendulums.

The appearance and mineral composition of Petrified Wood can vary considerably depending on its geological origin and the conditions under which fossilisation occurred.

Natural inclusions, fractures, pits and small surface variations can form part of the original fossil and its mineralisation and are not necessarily imperfections.

We will randomly choose a pendulum from our collection for you.
