Each pendulum is suspended from a silver plated chain and finished with a round Clear Quartz holding bead, providing a comfortable point from which to hold the pendulum.

Gold Sheen Obsidian is a naturally occurring variety of volcanic glass recognised for the golden, bronze or metallic-looking sheen that can become visible when the material is viewed under suitable lighting.

Unlike Quartz, Fluorite or Tourmaline, Obsidian is not a crystalline mineral. It forms when silica-rich molten rock cools so rapidly that substantial crystal growth cannot take place, producing an amorphous natural glass.

Gold Sheen Obsidian develops from rapidly cooled silica-rich volcanic material.

The cooling process occurs sufficiently quickly to prevent the atoms from organising into the repeating structure required to form a crystalline mineral. The resulting material is therefore a natural amorphous glass.

Microscopic gas bubbles and internal structures created during formation can interact with incoming light to produce the characteristic golden sheen.

What Causes the Gold Sheen in Obsidian?

The golden appearance of Gold Sheen Obsidian is an optical effect rather than metallic gold within the stone.

During the formation of Obsidian, tiny gas bubbles and other microscopic structures can become incorporated within the volcanic glass.
