Asteroceras obtusum (Sowerby, 1817) – A robust, evolute ammonite species from the Early Jurassic, known for its broad whorls and shallow ribbing. Each specimen, measuring 25mm in diameter, was collected from Huancayo, Peru, and has been expertly prepared with the surrounding matrix fully removed.

• Taxonomy: Family Arietitidae

• Chronostratigraphy: Lower Jurassic, likely Sinemurian Stage (~199–190 Ma)

• Provenance: Huancayo, Peru (from an old collection, no longer exportable)

• Preservation: Matrix-free, fully exposed shell with fine detail

• Size: 2.35 inches (5.97 cm) in diameter

• Rarity: Specimens from Peru are now geologically significant and increasingly rare due to export restrictions

This ammonite was part of a legacy private collection recently acquired, featuring diverse global material that is no longer accessible. An excellent addition to any palaeontological or historical fossil collection.
