Rainbow moonstone is a variety of labradorite feldspar (sodium calcium aluminium silicate) with a Mohs hardness of 6–6.5. Its distinctive adularescence is caused by light scattering between internal layers of feldspar, producing its signature iridescent flashes. Despite its name, rainbow moonstone is not a true moonstone but shares similar energetic qualities.
