A striking fluorescent Calcite specimen from the historic Winterberg Mine in Germany, a locality that is now permanently closed. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, these specimens display a vivid fluorescence, making them highly desirable for collectors of fluorescent minerals and classic European localities. With no new material entering the market from this mine, Winterberg Calcite has become increasingly sought after.

Geological Information

Calcite (CaCO₃) is one of the world's most common rock-forming minerals, crystallising in a wide variety of geological environments including hydrothermal veins, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic deposits.

The Winterberg Mine produced attractive calcite specimens that are particularly noted for their strong ultraviolet fluorescence. Since mining operations have ceased, specimens from this locality are finite and increasingly collectible.
