The Impactites Collection showcases natural glass and altered rocks formed by the intense heat and pressure of meteorite impacts on Earth. These rare geological specimens are direct evidence of planetary collisions, each carrying the signature of a specific impact event.

Included in this collection:

  • Moldavite – Formed ~15 million years ago from the Ries Crater impact in Germany, found in the Czech Republic. A translucent green tektite, highly sought after by collectors.

  • Libyan Desert Glass – Originating from a meteoritic airburst or impact in the Great Sand Sea of Egypt/Libya ~29 million years ago. Pale yellow to gold glass, used in ancient Egyptian artefacts.

  • Colombianite – Often referred to as “pseudo-tektite,” this natural volcanic glass is found in Colombia and Ecuador. While not an impactite in the strictest sense, it shares many characteristics and is of strong interest to collectors.

  • Darwin Glass – Discovered in Tasmania, Australia, and linked to an impact that occurred ~800,000 years ago. Found around the Darwin Crater strewn field, it presents in dark green to black forms.

  • Other Impactites – Occasionally, we feature rare impactites like Saffordite (disputed origin), Irghizites from Kazakhstan, and Wabar Glass from the Arabian Peninsula.

These specimens are appreciated not only for their geological importance but also for their distinct origins, visual properties, and the scientific intrigue behind each piece. Our collection is curated for those who value authenticity, provenance, and planetary science.
