Discover the extraordinary beauty of these natural Rainbow Pyrite Fossil Specimens from Ulyanovsk, Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia. Available as four unique collector variations, these rare fossils showcase an incredible iridescent metallic surface displaying vivid flashes of gold, blue, green, purple, and bronze tones formed naturally over millions of years.

Unlike traditional Pyrite crystal specimens, Rainbow Pyrite from this locality is actually fossilised ancient marine material that has undergone pyritisation — a rare geological process where organic structures become replaced with iron sulphide minerals over time. This creates spectacular metallic fossil formations with shimmering rainbow iridescence that distinguish them from standard cubic Pyrite crystals commonly known as “Fool’s Gold.”

These fascinating specimens originate from Jurassic marine deposits in Russia, where ancient ammonites and other prehistoric organic materials became mineralised under unique environmental conditions. The result is a stunning combination of palaeontology and mineralogy, making Rainbow Pyrite highly desirable for fossil collectors, mineral enthusiasts, geology lovers, and crystal displays.

Each piece is completely unique, featuring its own natural fossil textures, metallic lustre, pyritised structure, and iridescent colour play created entirely by nature.

What Is Rainbow Pyrite?

Rainbow Pyrite is not traditional Pyrite crystal growth. Instead, it is fossil material that has been naturally replaced and preserved with pyrite through a process called pyritisation. Over millions of years, ancient marine organisms became mineralised within sedimentary deposits, creating metallic fossil specimens with striking rainbow iridescence caused by surface oxidation and light interaction.

This rare material combines both fossil preservation and mineral formation, making it highly collectible and visually distinctive from ordinary Pyrite specimens.
